West Midlands Police Record Raid 1 - 9th August 1940
The raid began at 1.6.a.m. Air raid warning red received at 2.2 a.m. Friday 9th August and white at 2.31.a.m. 8 H.E. bombs were dropped in Erdington and Bromford districts (D-Division, Erdington), resulting in one person being killed, and eight others were injured. 11 houses were damaged, three of them extensively and windows of other houses broken. Artesian well tank at Bromford Tube Company burst, resulting in loss of water for four hours. No damage to highways. In addition to the above casualties, the following casualties occurred in other parts of the city:
Two men (70 and 63) died of collapse.
One woman died (fell downstairs) and
One person attempted suicide (gas).
Three other persons fell downstairs and were injured, one sustained a cut foot on going to a shelter and another sustained a head injury in the house.
