Swanshurst School Document System

Planning lessons through an ethos of innovation and challenge.

Learning at Swanshurst must be planned in the context of the Learning Cycle. This will be in each lesson, as well as across a series of lessons or learning opportunities. Planning in this ‘accelerated learning cycle’ maximises the potential for learning of all students.

This powerpoint accompanied the Assessment for Learning workshop led by John Hopkin. There are some useful links within it, and also the tasks have been added so that if you attended the workshop you can run through this with colleagues, perhaps at a team meeting. Elaine Kenney will be leading a team to develop whole school AfL strategies and approaches in the spring.
Use these materials, from the excellent DfES Pedagogy and Practice: Teaching and Learning in Secondary Schools pack. The feedback from the pilot project was that these are seriously useful tools for developing classroom practice. Use them to support your own development - particularly useful in supporting teaching and learning targets of Performance Management and providing a focus for lesson observations. These materials are particularly successful if you work with somebody else to support you. See Andrea Marsden or Guy Shears for DVD clips.
This powerpoint outlines music use for creativity, focus, relaxing and energising. These are just some ways in which music can be used to support learning. It also outlines some do's and don’ts to support the guidance document, and some examples of use of music in different subjects. If you have any examples of how you use music effectively in your lessons, either on lessons plans or simply an explanation of how you use it, please email these to Guy for inclusion in the guidance.Using Music Briefing 11-05-06
Music can be successfully used in classrooms and other spaces to inspire creativity and enhance learning. It can help promote a receptive mood for learning and minimise tension. It can be used to improve memory and concentration and can develop imaginative thinking. This document outlines the main things to consider when incorporating music into lessons. The team that researched the guidance was Doug Fielding-Smith, Kate Moule, Lucy Russon and Guy Shears.Guidance for using music in lessons
This Year 8 scheme of work for Drama is designed for all abilities, and highlights some excellent approaches for the talented student.
