Swanshurst musicians once again took part in the annual Birmingham Sound City Showcase at Bishop Challoner Roman Catholic School on Tuesday 8th February. The event is run with gifted and talented pupils in mind and is organised by Pepita Hanna from Music Services.
Ms Hanke took three Swanshurst acts, although she would have liked to have taken more. C Theodoulou 11A sang a beautiful version of rock ballad, "The Power of Love". I McGuire 9N performed with enormous confidence ,the ever so slightly tipsy Miss Hannigan, "Little Girls" from Annie. I Daly 10U, V Charvis 10S, S Sarwar 9D and S Cross 10N played an elegant string quartet piece, "Minuet and Trio" by Schubert. Our musicians were performing in a diverse programme that included a Rap duo, an Indie pop band, an instrumental jazz group, keyboard players classical and modern, guitarists, vocalists and a dynamic performing arts group who gave an energetic performance of "They Tried to Make Me Go to Rehab".
The performing Arts Department at Bishop Challoner arranged for a range of special effects to support the performers, with lighting and back projection adding to the atmosphere. The whole event lasted five hours including the technical rehearsal. It all ran smoothly apart from a few minor hiccoughs and everyone enjoyed the whole event. Especially having the opportunity to see other schools' talented perform.
