What is this all about?
World Challenge has been in existence for 22 years and organises educational expeditions in the developing world teaching life skills as well as expanding minds outside the classroom. At the moment, they organise projects in over 50 countries. Check out their website World Challenge. In July 2011, we have a team of about 14 girls plus Mrs Royal & Mrs Wensley who will be going to Ghana which is West Africa.
Where are we going?
Where we are staying Whilst in Ghana, this is where we will be staying. We will be working together as a team, working, shopping, eating and generally having fun together.
Where we will be going:
map of Ghana
We will be going to the East Coast of Ghana to a city called Takoradi, working in one of the rural farming villages. Ghana is a country where you will find rich and poor people. The team have decided to work in one of the poorer areas so as to help those less fortunate than themselves and to make a difference in their lives. In addition to these, we will be visiting Kakum National Park, Elmina slave castles, Cape Coast Girls school, beaches as well as living within a Ghanaian community.
Why are you going?
daystar nursery When in Ghana, we will be renovating this classroom at Daystar Nursery. In addition to this, we will building a playground for the children there. We are going because we want to help those who have little or even nothing. We are also going because we want to use our skills and talents in another country and culture. However, we are also going because we want to learn as this trip will help us learn about another culture, another community and how they do things. Lastly, we are going to learn some skills which will help us in the future as we will be developing our leadership and team working skills. We are sure that we will come back totally changed people so watch this space.
What we need to do:
As part of this project, we each need to raise £2500 for our trip. This has required us to be creative and enterprising as we have had to think of so many different raise to make money and to take as many people involved as possible. In addition to raising money for our trip, we are also looking to raise about £2000 for this project so as to build a playground for the nursery. The girls have been working really well in terms of raising money for their target. They have all raised more than £1000 out of their £2500, which is really exciting.
