Welcome to the new school year. I hope you have had an enjoyable summer break and that your daughters are now ready for a year’s successful hard work. We particularly welcome all our new Year 7 and Year 12 students.
Exceptional Examination Success
We are absolutely delighted with our examination results this year. At GCSE our students have again achieved really stunning success.
66%
have gained 5 A*-C including English and Maths
92%
have gained at least 5 A*-C grades
20%
attained the EBac
45%
gained at least three A*/A grades

students achieved at least 8 A* / A grades !
These are outstanding results. It means that our value-added score - progress made by students from when they started at Swanshurst in Year 7 - puts us well in the top 3% of all schools nationally.
At A level we are very pleased indeed to have exceeded the national average pass rate in gaining 100%. Many students have been very successful and virtually all who wished to go on to University have been accepted.
Entitlement to Free School Meals
If you receive Jobseekers Allowance or Income Support, then your daughter is entitled to have a free meal at lunchtime. It is helpful to us as a school to know who is eligible even if your daughter does not take advantage of this entitlement. So, I would ask you to let us have a copy of your letter confirming your Jobseekers Allowance or Income Support for our records. Please do contact us if you would like more information.
Photograph Permission
During the year we may wish to photograph or film your child and use the photographs or film for promotional purposes. Photographs are often taken for use in displays, the Herald, Parent Newsletters and publication on our school website, as well as for activities for charities, which may use the photos for their publicity purposes. If you do NOT wish your daughter to be photographed or filmed you will need to put this in writing to me. The responsibility for asking people not to include her in photographs will lie with your child if this is the case.
Text alerts and mobile numbers
Most letters home will be posted on the school website – www.swanshurst.org – and you will receive a text to alert you to a new letter. We urge you to check we have your latest mobile phone number so that you do not miss any messages. If you are not sure, then please do check.
Please look out for a text alert this week about an important letter concerning Attendance.
If you do NOT receive a text alert then please check we have your correct number.
Dates for the School Year
You will shortly receive information summarising all of the dates relevant to your daughter. Please note the Christmas holiday dates are Friday 21st December 2012 – Monday 7th January 2013 and the summer term ends on Friday 19th July 2013.
Advance notice – Wednesday 12th September is Open Evening for Prospective Parents. School will finish at 2.30pm on that day.
