The Situation
In July 2010 Pakistan suffered the worst floods in history, killing an estimated 1,600 and devastating the lives of over 20 million people. Swanshurst has always been a school that responds to crises all over the world and true to form we decided that we would launch a massive fund-raising campaign to help the victims of the floods. We decided to support the work of Save The Children, Islamic Relief and Oxfam and all funds raised will be donated to these charities. Staff and pupils have enthusiastically organised a wide range of activities this term. We hope you will enjoy reading about them and also continue with your generous support of the appeal. Further events will advertised on our website so please continue checking. We have our '2011 Calendar' launch and Benefit Concert coming up soon.

United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has issued the following statement

"Pakistan is facing a slow-motion tsunami. Its destructive power will accumulate and grow with time... Make no mistake: this is a global disaster, a global challenge. It is one of the greatest tests of global solidarity in our times.

I continue to urge the international community to respond generously and swiftly to urgent relief and recovery needs, as well as to reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts."
