Bali Rai Visits Swanshurst all thanks to a Year 11 Student...

On Wednesday 14th March 2012, recommended author Bali Rai, came to Swanshurst. The school were able to get the author to come with all the thanks going to Year 11 student Gawaher. Gawaher had recommended that Bali came to the school. She talked to her head of year, who said to her that if she could get Bali to come in, she would be happy to fund the money. I interveiwed Gawaher to find out how she felt.

'When I found out that Bali was actually going to come, it really reached out to me. I couldn't believe that I achieved what I wanted to. I have read most of his books, and my favourite is '(Un)arranged Marriage'.'

On the day Year 9 students got to have a full session with Bali Rai, where he told them about his book and his inspiration, as well as the students being able to ask him any questions they wanted to ask him. I interveiwed Yusra who attended one of the Bali Rai sessions.

'I was really excited as I have read most of his books. What I really wanted to find out was Bali's view on his own books, and why he chose certain charecters personality.I felt really suprised when I found out how he chose his characters and also how his books came to be.'

During lunchtime, students from all years were allowed to come to the library to have a meet and greet session where they were allowed to ask him questions and get autographs.

'I felt really excited that I was going to meet Bali himself. I had some many questions that I wanted to ask him. I got to ask him the questions and got the answers I wanted.  My favourite book by him is called Rani & Sukh, which I would definitely recommend to everybody. I also got it signed which makes the book so much better.'

As you can see majority of the school enjoyed the day, and again all thanks have to go to Gawaher.
