Crazy custard, NASA nappy absorption and how to get a boiled egg in a milk bottle were just a few of the amazing science activities covered in the Science Investigations Day, June 2009.
Dr Lauren Webb, Science College Primary Link and Mrs Samantha Harvey, Colmore Junior School planned and delivered a course designed to enhance science teaching at primary level.
Dr Webb said: “The event was very well received and the delegates commented on how useful they found the pack of resources that we had made for them.”
The course kicked off with outlining what makes a good science lesson, including OFSTED ideas. Then a circus of activities focused the delegates on the five strands of scientific enquiry while highlighting different pedagogical approaches. The day finished with a selection of ‘Wow factor’ activities which can grab pupils attention.
“It really did seem to ignite the imagination of the teachers who came,” Dr Webb commented. |
