Swanshurst students took part in Science week during March 2010.
The national event was marked by a selection of activities for all year groups, including visits by Andy from the Falconry Centre and Tom Warrender from Classroom medics.
Year 7 were thrilled to see birds of prey flying around lower hall, including a long eared owl and an American kestrel. They were also impressed to see a Steppe eagle spread its wings to their full wingspan—2 m!
Year 8 enjoyed a puzzle day, and year 9 had space themed lessons, including learning about NASA’s maximum absorbency garment (or nappies!) that were developed for the space program.
Year 10 and our A level biologists were visited by the classroom medics on two separate days. Year 10 got to test their strength, speed and coordination using some high tech sports apparatus.
The A-level biologists got to pretend to be doctors for the day as they ran tests on a fully automated dummy for heart rate, pulse and breathing rate. They also got to give each other an ECG, wear an old person suit and find the age of their lungs. |
