Transition Workshops

This programme is delivered in the first week of the Autumn term. Students attend three Core workshops and select the three additional workshops that are most relevant to them. Each subject will also run a seminar to allow students to discuss their completed preparation work.

Core Workshops:

  • Time Management
  • Research Methods (Library Induction)
  • Becoming an Independent Learner

Additional Workshops:

A wide range of workshops are offered which aim to develop transferrable skills such as

  • Simple statistical techniques
  • Writing to evaluate
  • Achieving A and A* grades
  • Managing coursework

Developing Independent Learners:

Every week of the first half term, teachers and form tutors will focus on supporting students to develop one of the key learning skills that support effective independent learning.

  • Week 2: Notetaking Strategies
  • Week 3: Reading Strategies
  • Week 4: Oracy
  • Week 5: Research Skills
  • Week 6: Writing Skills
