Swanshurst School is celebrating after being awarded the School Games Silver Mark Award for the 2025/26 academic year, recognising the school's commitment to providing high-quality sport and physical activity opportunities for all students.

The Silver Award reflects the significant work undertaken throughout the year to ensure students have access to a broad and inclusive programme of sport and physical activity. From curriculum PE and extracurricular clubs to competitive fixtures and leadership opportunities, sport continues to play an important role in school life at Swanshurst.

This commitment has also been strengthened through investment in the school's sporting facilities. At the start of September, Swanshurst completed a brand new purpose-built sports hall, further enhancing the opportunities available to students. The new facility complements the school's existing sports hall, gym, dance studio and outdoor courts, providing additional space for curriculum lessons, enrichment activities and competitive sport.

Throughout the academic year, students have represented the school in a wide range of local competitions and sporting events, demonstrating Swanshurst's vision of achieving excellence through the values of aspiration, resilience and independence. The award also recognises the contribution of student leaders who have helped organise and support sporting activities for their peers.

As part of the School Games Mark application process, schools must demonstrate impact across four key areas: participation, competition, workforce and clubs. Achieving the Silver Award recognises the collective effort of students, staff and the wider school community in creating a positive sporting culture that encourages young people to be active, healthy and engaged.

The School Games Mark is a Government-led award scheme, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust, which recognises schools for their commitment to developing competitive sport, increasing participation and creating opportunities for young people to engage in physical activity both within school and across the wider community.
