Dear Parent / Carer
As part of your daughter’s AS Geography course, a residential course has been organised at the Cranedale Centre, North Yorkshire. The activities of the week will relate to the topics covered in the syllabus and the undertaking of fieldwork is a compulsory part of the new A level curriculum. Data collected on the trip will be used by pupils to complete their coursework (20% of their final qualification).
The field course will take place from Monday 2nd July until Wednesday 4th July 2018. The students will be supervised during the journey by Swanshurst staff and, once at Cranedale, by staff at the Centre as well. Some of this supervision may be ‘remote’ where the students will be working independently in pairs or small groups to enable development of independent field research skills. During the visit, pupils will be participating in a number of activities outlined on the itinerary which is attached.
The group will travel by school mini bus. They should meet Mrs Dabner at school at 6.45am ready for a 7am departure on Monday 2nd July 2018. They will return to school by 8pm on Wednesday 4th July 2018.
In order to ensure that this visit can go ahead, we are seeking a contribution of £100.00 (The cost of the trip is being heavily subsidised by school reducing the contribution by students).
However, should you have any reason that you are unable to make this contribution please contact me in writing before Monday 29th January 2018. This visit may need to be cancelled if insufficient contributions are received.
Your contribution can be paid either by using our online payment system which can be accessed via our website at www.swanshurst.org or by cash/ cheque, (cheques should be made payable to Swanshurst School) during break or lunch time at the School Fund Hatch in Upper School. A non-refundable deposit of £25.00 will need to be paid by 9th February followed by 3 payments of £25.00 by the 9th April, 8th May, and 4th June 2018.
Yours sincerely
Debbie James
