Yr 10 Carding Mill Valley

Dear Parent/Carer

The Geography Department is organising a visit to Carding Mill Valley, Shropshire, on Tuesday 24th April 2018.

The purpose of the visit is to collect primary data at the site. Students will walk around Carding Mill Valley site to collect data, for their assignments. It is an essential part of the GCSE Geography course that students undertake at least two pieces of fieldwork in contrasting locations and that one of their examination papers in year 11 will be based on the techniques they carry out and the results they collect on this day.

Students will need to wear waterproof clothes and sensible shoes as they will be outdoors most of the day. They will also need to bring / wear wellingtons as they will need to go in to the river

We will be leaving school at 8.15 am and travel by coach, returning to school at 6.30 pm.

Students should bring a packed lunch. If your daughter is entitled to Free School Meals and you have provided the necessary evidence to the main office, please indicate on the attached slip. She will then be entitled to a packed lunch from the school canteen.

In order to ensure that this visit can go ahead, we are seeking a voluntary contribution of £15.00. However, should you have any reason that you are unable to make this contribution please contact me in writing by Monday 26th February 2018. This visit may need to be cancelled if insufficient contributions are received.

Your contribution can be paid either by using our online payment system which can be accessed via our website at www.swanshurst.org or by cash/ cheque, (cheques should be made payable to Swanshurst School) during break or lunch time at the School Fund Hatch in Upper School from Monday 26th February to Friday 2nd March.

Please note it is your responsibility to ensure your daughter’s safety if she makes her own way home.

Yours sincerely

Debbie James
